Advancement Formula

ADVANCEMENT TOTAL
= Source Quality + Bonus from Virtues – Penalty from Flaws

Adventure Experience

  • All characters (including magi, companions, and grogs)are eligible for adventure xp as long as they are played by the players.

*Adventure experience does not interfere with season advancement unless it occupies more than a month out of a season.

*Adventure experience can also include “freebies” – larger blocks of exposure experience that are reasonable and part of the story such as 5 extra xps in a language after a long period of exposure.

Annual NPC Experience Calculations

*Applies to Grogs and companions not played over the game year. Covers the occupational time spent doing their jobs.

*Four seasons of experience to be divided between 2 seasons of exposure, 1 season of practice, and 1 season of training.

Exposure Source Quality = 2 xp
Exposure Source Quality = 2 xp
Practice Source Quality = 4 xp* (*with some exceptions. Hermetic Arts may not be increased with practice)
Training/Teaching Source Quality = varies (See below)

Additional Formulas

ADVENTURE SOURCE QUALITY:
5-10, you may apply a maximum of 5 EP to a single Ability or Art.

PRACTICE SOURCE QUALITY:
4, with some exceptions*. Hermetic Arts may not be increased with practice.

EXCEPTION / SOURCE QUALITY
Practicing language / 8 until level 5, then drops to 4
in a native community

Practicing Area Lore by / 5-7 depending on thoroughness of exploration
traveling/ living in that location

Practicing a Trade or Craft / 5
in an environment with
Immediate feedback

Casting a Spell repeatedly / 5
for Mastery

TRAINING SOURCE QUALITY:
Master’s Score in Ability being taught + 3. Hermetic Arts cannot be increased through Training.
TRAINING GAIN LIMIT: Master’s Score in Ability being taught.

TEACHING SOURCE QUALITY:
Teacher’s COM + Teaching + 3 + Bonus.
A Teacher may only have a number of students = Teaching X 5.
Source Quality gets + 6 Bonus if teaching only 1
Student, or +3 if teaching 2 Students.
TEACHING GAIN LIMIT: The Teacher’s Score in Art or Ability.
